Christmas may be different this year, but plans are in place for festivities to still take place
COVID restrictions are still in place, and with no news on restrictions being lifted on the 2nd December as yet, Solihull’s Council has plans in place to bring the festivities to you in line with whatever restrictions are still in place.
In recent years, the shopping centre has had a TV celeb turning on their lights, but this year it is unlikely they will have an official ceremony, however, the Christmas lights will be on as normal and there will still be a tree. Although, it is highly unlikely there will be a grotto this year.
In Knowle, community groups have banded together to organise a series of special Christmas events. The physical switch-on has been replaced with a virtual ‘Light Up Knowle’ event scheduled for the 29th November with the video being streamed via Facebook from 4.55. After the event, people will have access to an online map where you can register your road to be included on a ‘light trail’ display that you can walk to see the lights.
Knowle Society will still be donating a tree to take pride of place in the centre of the village and Knowle and Dorridge Lions, Knowle and Dorridge Round Table and Knowle Church have also offered their services.
Solihull town centre
In the town centre, a Christmas tree has already been installed in the Square and at Touchwood shopping centre a socially-distanced grotto area has been assembled in the hopes that lockdown restrictions will be lifted on the 2nd December.
